The Force Awakens pitch poster Adam Relf

This gorgeous poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been making the rounds on the Internet since it popped up on Reddit and Imgur last night. Adam Relf’s art evokes Drew Struzan’s signature style, and would look perfectly in place as an official poster—not least of all because there’s Luke Skywalker, front and center!

According to TheForce.net, this poster was pitched at some point but wasn’t officially signed off on. Probably because it had Luke, in all honesty; Lucasfilm seems very interested in keeping him under wraps until the movie’s release. But Relf posted it to his website recently, allowing fans to enjoy it anyway.

We especially like how this poster tells a story: You’ve got “nobody” Rey as the main focus, with the dark and light Jedi on either side of her. (Much as we love the official poster, the positioning of the lightsabers versus Rey’s staff seems a bit awkward in comparison.) You actually see most of Captain Phasma’s body and how she towers over the First Order. Most of all, this poster is primarily the new generation of characters—aside from Luke, looking over it all—with the Falcon included as a reminder that, yes, Han and Leia are there, too.

The Force Awakens comes to theaters so soon! December 18.

I think, in addition to Luke being in the poster, its more Rey-centric than Lucasfilm wants the marketing to be.

Oooh, I like :D

Also, I didn’t notice this until a few seconds of staring, but that moon/sun is actually the Death Star-y thing.

@1 – maybe? The trailers (a least the most recent one) have seemed somewhat Rey centric to me.

Who’s the dude with Phasma? And is it me, or does Poe Dameron here look more like Jake Johnson than Oscar Isaac… wait, they look a bit like each other…

Actually, Luke is more back and center than front and center :)

He is the military commander of the First Order, played by Domhnall Gleason. His name is General Hux.

@2:

They’ve been pretty balanced between Rey and Finn, in my opinion. Everybody assumes the second trailer was about Rey, because of “I’m no one” in answer to the VOs question “Who are you?”. But I’m pretty sure she’s saying that to BB-8 early in the film as in “Who are you, little guys” “Beep beep, tweet.” “Who am I? I’m no one”

The most recent :30 TV spot is character centric. Finn will get one as well, in a week.

When you say second trailer, do you mean third? (I guess I think of that one as the third because there was that teaser last year).

Interestingly, the Japanese one seemed mostly Rey based as well, but I don’t know if there are differences in the marketing in different countries and who controls that.

YEAH. Technically, I guess that’s the FIRST trailer. The other two were teasers. But that second one seemed more than a teaser to me.

Thanks, I wasn’t even aware of Hux.

@9:

Standing next to Phasma, I wonder if they are planning on giving him a Napoleon Complex, heh.

Yeah, I know he’s standing next to Phasma. I asked who was standing next to Phasma and you told me. :)

@11:

I’m afraid I don’t get the joke… I’ll assume my sentence structure was confusing and rephrase:

He looks so short standing next to the extremely large Phasma, I wonder if they are planning on giving his character a Napoleon complex?

For some reason, I saw your post  at #10 as two separate posts, and one only read to me as “Standing next to Phasma”.

No problem, my use of the language certainly could have been better!

No, your language was impeccable. It’s just that I swear Tor showed it to me as two separate comments.

The Tor website code is a haven for imps and gremlins of all kinds. I doubt it not.
